Hob Repairs
Hob problems we see across Cape Town
Hobs — whether gas, electric coil, ceramic, or induction — tend to develop faults in one zone or element at a time, and the fix depends heavily on the hob type.
Common faults
- One zone or element not heating — a faulty element on electric and ceramic hobs, or a blocked burner on gas hobs.
- Induction hob not detecting pans — a coil or sensor fault beneath the glass surface.
- No spark on gas hobs — a worn igniter or spark module.
- Cracked glass surface — on ceramic and induction hobs, this needs the surface replaced rather than repaired.
- Controls unresponsive — a fault in the touch control panel or underlying switch.
- Zone stays on after switching off — a stuck relay or control fault, worth having checked promptly.
What we can help with
We test each zone or burner individually and identify exactly which component has failed before any work starts. Induction and ceramic hobs need careful diagnosis since the fault is usually hidden beneath the glass.
When repair makes sense
Individual elements, igniters, and switches are worth repairing. A cracked glass surface is a bigger decision that depends on the hob’s age and value, which we’ll discuss with you honestly.

Frequently asked questions
Why won’t my induction hob detect my pan?
Usually a coil or sensor fault beneath that specific zone, or occasionally an incompatible pan base. We test the zone directly to confirm which.
Can a single hob element be replaced?
On most electric and ceramic hobs, yes — individual elements can usually be replaced without affecting the rest of the hob.
My gas hob won’t spark — is it serious?
Usually just a worn igniter, which is a straightforward fix. If you smell gas without ignition, turn off the supply and get it checked immediately.
